Reminder: First Friday featuring local food trucks
Just a reminder: Friends & Family Day at Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) is this Friday, May 3 at the Bronco Commons from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Friends and Family Day is part of CPP‘s First Friday series, which brings students and the rest of the CPP community large-scale campus events every first Friday of the month. It is part of an initiative to create a more active on-campus life for students.
There will be a variety of well-known food trucks ranging from Ta Bom (Brazilian), to Kogi (Japanese), White Rabbit (Filipino) and of course, dessert trucks. Sounds delicious, right? Bring cash and try something new. Food trucks will also include MY Delight Cup Cakery, Felony Franks, Paradise Cookies & Ice Cream and Tropical Islands.
Invite your friends and family to enjoy the family-friendly activities and entertainment. If your parents or siblings haven’t explored the campus lately, they should take this opportunity. It could be a lot of fun! Alumni and the local community are welcome as well. Event admission is free. One-day parking permits can be purchased for $5 at any of the Parking and Transportation services parking permit pay stations.
The event will kick off with a performance by the high-energy pop band Le Paige at 4 p.m. at the Bronco Commons stage.
As far as rides and games go, there will be a zip-line, rock wall, Create-a-Critter station, wax hands station, carnival games and kid’s games. All activities are free except for Create-a-Critter and the wax hands, which are $5 and $2, respectively. The proceeds for those activities will go to benefit Cal Poly Pomona’s own Children’s Center.
Feeling daring? Speed down the zip-line and face your fears by making it to the top of the rock wall. In case you’re wondering whether you want to try out Create-a-Critter, just think of it like this: you get to make your own stuffed animal. Whether you’re 10 years old or 50 years old, that’s always a cool experience. To make wax hands, you literally dip your hands in wax that’s just warm enough to make a mold but not enough to harm you. That will make an imprint of your hands. This could be a really cute way for a child to make a keepsake for a parent or for anyone to make a unique decoration.
Children and animal lovers of all ages may be happy to hear that Danny’s Farm Petting Zoo will be at the event. Also, the Adventure of Billy Bronco collaborative comic issue #2, a large-sized comic strip made by the ASI Art Program, will be set up for people to add their own part to the story.
The animated family-comedy “Wreck It Ralph” will be shown on an inflatable screen out at the Bronco Commons at 8 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets and chairs for a picnic in the park-style movie experience. The movie will include previews and there will be free kettle corn.
